Biography

Brian is a Licensed Professional Counselor (Candidate) and earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Naropa University with a specialization in Contemplative Psychotherapy. His approach is unique in that it integrates a blend of both Eastern and Western psychology. He has been actively working with adolescents and adults professionally in various settings including his private practice, the Juvenile Assessment Center in Boulder, CO as a Support Group Leader, out in the community, parks, hiking trails, and client’s homes as a professional mentor, at a domestic violence shelter as a counselor, and as a DBT group facilitator at a mental health clinic.

My Approach

In my clinical approach, my work with clients is collaborative and relational in nature. Together, we identify growth-inhibiting thoughts, habits, and behaviors that no longer serve you, understand the root of these patterns, and learn and apply new tools and behaviors that facilitate growth and life-affirming changes. By learning to form a healthy relationship with yourself first, you are planting seeds to create positive and sustainable relationships with your loved ones, the greater community, and the environment. Informed by evidence-based research, I utilize mindfulness-based interventions that draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Existential Psychotherapy, Attachment Theory, and Contemplative Psychotherapy. I also find great value in walk ‘n talk therapy, hiking, meditation, yoga, and movement therapy that all serve as supplemental resources and inspire my clinical work.
