Biography
Thomas is a licensed master social worker with licenses in both New York and New Jersey. Before entering the field of social work, he served as a police officer with the NYPD, where he gained hands-on experience in de-escalating situations involving individuals and families in crisis. This pivotal experience ignited his passion for helping others and inspired him to pursue a career in social work, where he felt he could make an even greater impact.
My Approach
"In my practice, I prioritize creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts and feelings. I draw heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps individuals identify and challenge negative thought patterns that can lead to distress. By working together, we can replace those thoughts with healthier, more constructive ones.
I also place a strong emphasis on psychoeducation. I believe that understanding the underlying principles of mental health can empower my clients and reduce feelings of uncertainty or fear. Knowledge is a powerful tool, and I strive to provide my clients with the information they need to make informed decisions about their well-being.
Overall wellness is central to my approach. I encourage clients to focus on holistic strategies that support their mental, emotional, and physical health. This might include mindfulness practices, stress management techniques, and self-care routines. My goal is to help clients build resilience and develop the skills they need to thrive in their daily lives."
